St Petersburg & Murmansk - Arctic winter journey

A fresh combination of gorgeous St Petersburg, and Murmansk, the biggest city north to the Arctic Circle.

Enjoy the cultural heritage of the “Venice of the North”, justifiably considered the most European city in Russia. Then, take the opportunity to experience the Russian Arctic, which will dazzle you at any time of the year.

  • Take a walk along Nevsky Prospekt which, running through the heart of St Petersburg, is flanked by some of its most incredible buildings, bridges and squares.

  • If you're lucky enough to visit over the summer, take a boat trip around the city's rivers and numerous canals.

  • Explore the Hermitage which, featuring 3 million artefacts, is absolutely huge. Composed of five main buildings and exhibiting works from the Stone Age to the modern day, remember to stock up with a hearty breakfast and wear your best walking shoes.

  • Murmansk, a hero-city, is full of historical monuments. You will be impressed by its 42-metre-high warrior “Alyosha” and the world’s first nuclear Icebreaker "Lenin". This city offers several museums and monuments, one of them dedicated to the Kursk submarine which sank in 2000.

  • Explore the Teriberka settlement on the Barents Sea – a scene in the thought-provoking Russian film “Leviathan”.

  • Visit the Saami ethno-park and enjoy an ethnic lunch there. Continue to the husky farm.
